Las Vegas travel tips

Getting to Vegas is a breeze. Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is just minutes from the Strip and served by virtually every major airline. Once you arrive, rideshares like Uber and Lyft are your best friends for getting around quickly. Heads up: Vegas runs on its own clock, so pace yourself, stay hydrated, and leave room in the schedule for a little spontaneity.

AU in Vegas: FUN FACTS

The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign was designed, not branded

In 1959, designer Betty Willis created the iconic sign at a time when few women worked in visual design. She sold the design without copyrighting it, intentionally leaving it open for public use. A reminder that some of the most lasting design choices prioritize impact over ownership.

Architects have been studying Las Vegas for decades

In 1967, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown brought architecture students to Las Vegas to study commercial and popular buildings, later publishing Learning from Las Vegas. The book reshaped how designers think about everyday architecture and signage.

The Venetian is inspired by the real thing, down to the details

Before building The Venetian, design teams studied landmarks in Venice like the Rialto Bridge and Doge’s Palace. The result isn’t an exact replica, but a highly detailed reinterpretation grounded in real architectural reference.

Hoover Dam’s concrete is still curing

Built in the 1930s, Hoover Dam contains so much concrete that its interior is still hardening today. Engineers estimate it will take centuries, around 500 years in total, for it to fully cure.

The Sphere is the largest spherical structure on earth

Standing 366 feet tall, the Sphere features a 580,000-square-foot LED exterior and a massive interior display spanning roughly three football fields. Its advanced audio system uses around 160,000 speaker elements to deliver highly directional sound. It’s located right next door to the Venetian and worth a look while you're in the neighborhood!

Las Vegas tunneled beneath Lake Mead to secure its water supply

As water levels dropped, Southern Nevada built a third intake tunnel deep beneath Lake Mead using a massive tunnel boring machine. The project ensures access to water even at critically low lake levels, and earned top honors from the International Tunnelling Association.

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is approximately 4-5 miles from The Venetian Expo, typically a 10-15 minute drive, depending on traffic.

Rideshare
& Taxi

Uber, Lyft, and taxis are available from the airport. Taxis offer flat-rate fares to the Las Vegas Strip and resort areas, and all options provide a quick and easy way to reach your hotel or The Venetian Expo—often in under 15 minutes.
